The airstone in my Betta tank keeps getting algae on it. I tried boiling it but it came back. The algae gets all over the tube thing that the bubbles come up through and on the shells and rocks i have in his tank. What do i do? and is it bad from my Betta?

  1. It's pretty simple- get an algae scrubbing pad. make sure it is not the kind on a stick. use it like a sponge or scouring pad on dishes. just scrub anything and ever thing that has algae. but DO NOT do it in the tank or it will fill with little algae spores which will make your tank even worse. take everything out BEFORE you clean it! if it is the tank wall at least empty the tank halfway then scrub and add more water.

  2. If it is only on the air stone, then you can remove it. Betta's are anabantoids which mean they get most of their air from the surface, so they don't need an air stone.

  3. algae wont hurt him. if he is in a tank with a filter get an otocinclus. they stay small and are pretty good little algae eaters. i put trumpet snails with my betas and havnt had to clean the glass yet

Adding lots of live plants will help with the algae too, they feed off of the same stuff and with enough plants you can starve the algae
