I've got a big fish tank. I fill the tank with water, and then i put the small pebbles and stones in. When i put the stones in, the water went all brown and dirty. I have had 2 filters put in and the water hasn't changed. Is there any way of cleaning the pebbles, other than just rinsing them? Thanks.

  1. keep on changing the water till it gets cleaned.

  2. never clean your gravel with warm water. use cold tap water and stick your hands in there moving the gravel around until the water runs clear. I sometimes leave the gravel sit overnight to make all the dirt loosen up. but I still clean it the next day by hand. if you have not put fish in this tank I would suggest cleaning the whole thing again. don't put your filters through all the pressue of sucking up who knows what. The filters will get clogged and you will be looking for new filter cartridges. this way you can just turn them off and rinse them really well

  3. You should have thoroughly washed the stones with warm water.

You wont be able to put fish in for a while until it has cleared. until then what i would do is buy a syphon from your local pet store and a new bucket that you will use for the fish only and use the syphon to clean through the stones This is basically a water change do several of these through out the week make sure when you put in fresh water you add the dechlorinator and then buy a test kit that tests for ammonia nitrate and nitrite if the tests say there is none of the ammonia, nitrate or nitrite then you can buy your fish if not more water changes.

    hope this helps

  4. They sell vacuums just for that purpose at pet stores

  5. I took mine out altogether. It was too much of a pain. I still have decorations and it still looks real nice.

  6. Maybe it was resulted from the chemical in the pebble the colour or mineral salt in the pebble itself.

Try to wash and soak your pebble in a bucket of water overnight before you put it in your tank.

And if this problem continue try to buy a solution that can clear your water level.

They are many company selling this type of solution try to ask the sale assistant in the fishshop to guide you on buying this solution.

    Goog luck :p

  7. You need a gravel cleaner. You can get them pretty much at any pet store, even wal-mart.

You may need to let your filters run for a few days to help clear the dirt out of the tank. You just stirred everything up.

Did you clean the gravel before you put it in the tank? You may need to clean your filter cartridges also.
