My 3 month old kitten does not have ear mites, but she has a lot of brown wax. I notice she itches it sometimes, was just wondering what at-home treatment i can do to clean out the wax.

  1. use a qtip but do NOT go too far. it might help too if you wet the qtip with warm water, not cold or she sill really hate the feeling.

  2. what i do is get a q-tip and carefully clean them myself. dont go too far in though ok. if that still doesnt help taken them to a grooming place and have them do it plus the works ( a full bath)

  3. you can use q tips just dont go to far down or if you are scared youll hurt your kitty take to the vet they will clean or you can go to a pet store i would say they have special ear cleaner for cats! hop i could help!

  4. Wax build-up could be related to poor quality food. A healthy cat should not have waxy ears, or it should be very minimal. Making sure she is eating a really good food, including canned should help her shed the wax naturally. Good foods include Innova, Nature's Variety, Wellness, Solid Gold, Felidae, Orijen and Taste of the Wild. Be careful if you are going to clean your cat's ears, if I recall correctly they have 27 bones in the ears alone and it is extremely easy to damage them permanently.

  5. it's really best to go to the vet and get some ear cleansing solution.

  6. just use a damp cloth there is also a home remedy you can make mix rubbing achol backing soda together there is 2 other ingredients i forgot so look up home made cat ear cleaning solution on the web

  7. DON'T USE Q-TIPS! You can cause real damage with those. You buy epiotic liquid from a pet store, and if you canr't find that use some olive oil. Just olive, no other oils. Put some of the liquid or the oil on a cotton piece, and clean the ear with the cotton. If you find epiotic you can also just poor some into the ear. By the way, having the brown wax show that maybe she has mites or funghi. You have to use epiotic and perhaps she needs treatment with dexoryl or oridermyl. Also, spot-on Revolution also help with the ear mites.

  8. my kitten used to have that too, i just used q tips, he hated it but it worked!

  9. DO NOT use Q-tips in ears - not even yours.  A cotton ball with a little bit of peroxide will do the trick.  Do not soak the cotton ball, just barely damp.  Unless you are a vet, tech tech or groomer - or have experience do this - do not go more than 1/4 down.  If your kitten has that much dirt and wax, there may be a small infection, you should call your vets office and have them take a look at it, and they can show you the proper and SAFE way of cleaning ears.  Using a Q-tip can damage the eardrum if you go too far, and unless you know a cat anatomy, it would be taking a chance on hurting the cat permanently.

  10. Wet a paper towel a little bit and wipe her ears out.
