  1. You need a iLink or firewire cable & a firewire port on your PC. Check your PC manufacturer support site for firewire compatibility or additional hardware needed. See the Sony support site for your camcorder model for more information. There are tutorials, live help, & software downloads. Follow the link below>>>>>>>>>>>

  2. Dear Rahul,

SONY DCR-HC28E is a MiniDV Camcorder which has an i-LINK (Or FireWire/IEEE-1394/DV) 4pin connector. It's an asset to connect your camcorder to your PC.

The problem is that NOT all PC has a FireWire (or i-LINK/IEEE-1394) connector. Some PC has built-in Firewire but 99% of PC don't. ( Different story with Apple computers as the FireWire connector is a standard feature).

You need to purchase a PCI card that fits in your PC expansion slot. The daunting task is to pop open your PC to install the card, but it is quite an easy task (and there is always someone you know out there could help you).

Once the IEEE-1394/Firewire card is installed, the most important issue is the software.

If you are using a PC with XP or Vista, it came FREE with MovieMaker. A simple to use with limited feature and should suffice to the novice, but if you are looking for somewhat a more professional yet simple software, do look at ULEAD VideoStudio (ver.11.5) or Canopus EDIUS. SONY Vegas also a good Video Editor software.

(If you are using a Apple Mac, iMOVIE is a free video capturing and editing software. More professional side, FinalCut Pro is the best Video Editing so far.(My personal Opinion base on experience ... :-) )

Now what is left is a little bit of Spielberg and..... Lights....Camera.....Action.......

Best Regards and hope that I did address your quest for answers.
