  1. Pretty sure that it can not be done since the router needs a wire to it before it can send out the wireless signal.  But why not check with 2wire or Linksys for yourself to make sure?

  2. Using more than one router on the same connection causes problems. This is NOT the way a wireless router is designed to work. What you really need is a wireless access point, this will have one lan connection normally, and acts as a bridge to the wireless router. You would then need a network switch connected to the access point to connect the machines locally to it. Your way you would be trying to reverse the router action.

Alternatively fit wireless cards in each machine and just use the single router. Much easier.

  3. You're trying to make whats called a "wireless bridge"

Theres a pretty good tutorial on doing that here:

  4. A router (well, mixed brands) can't do that.  You want to set up a wireless bridge.

Either get 2 routers (same brand) that support WDS and set them up replacing the current router --or-- look at something like the Belkin WURE (wireless universal range extender) that can give you one eithernet port from the wireless, and them connect a network switch to give you enough ports.

Or you could just get a USB wireless adapter for the desktop computer, and an xbox wireless adapter for that...
