How do i connect a Philips Home Theatre System HTS3357 to an xbox 360 elite?

how do i connect a Philips Home Theatre System HTS3357 to an xbox 360 elite.The xbox has a optical output the phillips has a digital coax. I purchased a coal to optical converter but there is a a sinc problem between image and sound.My TV has 2 hdmi one for the xbox and one for the HTS3357, when using the xbox via hdmi i am not getting 5.1 through speakers.Any thoughts would be appreciated

I'm not sure whether you connect the speaker to the xbox don't you connect the xbox to the TV and then connect the speakers to the TV.
