How do i connect my Electronic Keyboard to the computer to use it as a synthesizer?

I have a Yamaha - PSR 1000. I want to connect it to a Desktop, to use it as a synthesizer.

Can Anyone please guide me. I would like it to be interfaced so as it can work with any software like Fruity loops's PoiZone, or Reason or any software that you would recommend.

The PSR 1000 seems to use a weird serial port hook-up instead of midi...have a look at what you'll need to set up a serial connection in section 2 here: http://www.yamaha.com/yamahavgn/CDA/Know...

Its kind of a weird connection since most keyboards use MIDI control but it should work fine. I'd reccommend fruity loops to start off with, Reason is cool to. You could look into Ableton live or some Native Instrument packages like Reaktor after that.
