How do i connect my tv to my hardwired 6.1 surround sound?

I have a hardwired (new construction) 6.1 surround sound system, i've got my dvd, vcr, receiver all hooked up but can't figure out how to connect t.v. so we get that through surround sound as well. suggestions?

  1. Just find the audio output on the TV and connect it to your receiver.

    Or find the audio output on your Digital Set Top box if you have one and connect it to your receiver in the same manor.

    Identify the the best output on the TV.

    1: Digital will be the optical or digital coax connection.

    2: Analog will be a white and red RCA connection

    Identify the in Inputs on your receiver.

    Typically its labeled TV or TV/DBS on the receiver.

    They usually look the same on your other components.

  2. If your TV is mono you won't gain much and it may not be worth the effort. If it is stereo and doesn't have an ear phone jack or other audio out put connector(s), you will have to grab the audio at the speakers. That really should be done by a pro in the TV service business as if not done right could cause lots of problems on both ends. If it does have sound out jacks (RCA) it is just a case of running them to an unused aux. input on your VCR or receiver.
