I want to connect my dvd recorder to record my shows from the tv to the cable box with an hdmi cable. They all have the hdmi ports, but my tv has 2. What is the second one for and how do i connect them all together? I've tried several ways but nothing seems to work. Do i need a special device that will connect them together?

  1. you dvd recorder is capable of recording shows from the cable box but not in high definition. you will want to use the hdmi connections for the highest quality when hooking the cable box and dvd recorder to the tv. here is how i would hook it all up...

hook the cablebox to hdmi1 on the tv

hook the dvd recorder to hdmi2 on the tv

run a composite video (red, white, yellow) from the cable box to the line1 in on the back of the dvd recorder. when you want to recorder you will have to select "line1" on the dvd recorder in order for the dvd recorder to pick up what you want to record.

  2. You will need to use a coaxial cable as well. First, run a coaxial cable from the cable box's coaxial output, into the DVD recorder's coaxial Input. Then, run a coaxial cable from the DVD recorder's output, into the TV's coaxial input. Then, run an HDMI cable from the DVD recorder's HDMI output, into one HDMI input in your TV. You may also run an HDMI cable from the cable box's HDMI output, into the other HDMI input in your TV.

  3. You will need a cable going from the cable box to the dvd recorder, there should also be a port that will connect from the cable box to the TV so you can watch it
