How do i connect to the family internet network via my laptop?

so i just got a laptop, but it doesnt have internet. dad said that i could connect it to the family internet network. is this possible? if so where can i do this and approx how much would it cost? i live in brisbane, australia. thankyou in advance. :)

you'll need a wireless router connected to the family pc, and a wireless notebook adapter for your laptop. with the wireless adapter, you can connect to the internet at a lot of places like the library, or anywhere with wifi. check linksys.com, thats the brand of wifi products i got, and they work good. or go to your local computer/electronics store, they should be able to help.

If it is a reasonably modern laptop, it probably has both wireless and cable network ports.  Laptops are more conveniently connected wirelessly.  If you ur family have a wireless router, it is normally just a question of turning on the wireless on your laptop and letting it do the work itself.

Without more specifics (make and model of laptop, make and model of your family router), I can't help much more.
