How do i contact overseas during transit?

I am leaving to Vancouver next week and my transit is in Hongkong. Right now i am in India. How do i contact my family during the transit?? i checked out some vodafone connections and they seem to charge a lot.. wat is the easiest and the cheapest way?? please let me know :) thanx
