  3. Try ULead GIF Animator

  4. the Ulead animated gif program is a good answer.

I've used it my self before. It works very well.  Especially on low resolution *.avi video.   I did not try it on long length video.  mOre that 30 sec.

But That aside is only one of many ways to do it.

look up GIMP.  or the gimp.  Do a yahoo search. Its free.

your sorce *.avi file, is leterially a stream of individual pictures. Different resolution, no.  all exactly the same.  they may be 240x180, or 640x480 or 1024x768  and the every popular 1080i, new HD format.

the anaminated gif file is a series of pictures.

1, 2, 3 4, 5, ..... to 10,000.  You can set that many in Unlead.  But try to limit your self to 10, 20 or 30.

also try to limit your self to low resolution, 240x180. do a small test run.  The bigger the picture the more computer horse power you need.  Of Course everyone has a dual processor PC these days.  But learn on a slow pace.

But If you want some thing quick and dirty.  the gimp and 5 or 6 frames is ok too.  There is a famous gif of Anna Karnova eating a banana. it is only 4 frames.  Use the gimp to capture a few frams and arrange them in sequence to show the move ment that you want.  gimp can give you a one click button to sequence a few frames.  It easy and cheep.

If you are so inclined, just get a MAC.  They can do a lot of this graphics stuff off the shelf.

    Here is another idea.

do a yahoo search and look for gif anamination.  I have had it recently pointed out to me that computing has changed a lot is the past 20 years.  What people use to sell for a couple hundred bucks 20 years ago, now there is some bight eyed kid giving it away on the internet for free.  I found a free program to turn a *.jpg into a TEXT file picture.  This kind of thing was done for fun in the 60 and 70's.  Use to require a main fram and a type writer output....... sorry.  Got lost in the past

gimp and sequence 6 pictures, or Unlead.
