How do i convert a manual start motor to electric start?

it is a 1975 20 hp mercury..........the bracket is there but has always been a manual start. what kind of wiring would i need to do.......what parts?

  1. Best to find a Donor motor as finding parts that old will be a issue>


  2. First make sure the unit can take an electric starter. Then check and see if the bolt holes are in place so that the gear on the starter will line up nicely with the flywheel. If they have not been pre-drilled it will be a tough job.

    Once you determine you can do this, come back and ask about the wiring.

  3. Those engines are notorious for rotten wiring. The insulation becomes brittle and cracks, then falls off. This type engine is not worth the trouble and expense of conversion.
