My parents said i could but now they are changing their minds a little. i wont be about to drive till like the middle of next summer so i wont be able to visit them( not that i want to) they let my older sister work their at like age 17 (i'll be 16) but they wont let me! my sister says that they dont want me to leave cause then my parents will have to deal with each other more than they already do but honestly dont think i can take another summer at home without dying

and the job is lifeguarding at a summer bible camp.

and i really love the camp and the people their.

how do i convince them?

thanks!

  1. Are you going to start living in that location? Just guessing since it is 3 hours away. If you are, your parents really are very UNLIKELY to let you live on your own. BTW if you are expecting your parents to pay for your rent dont expect them to allow you to move lol. I don't know the case of your sister, but there's a reason why kids often move out age 18.

If you really want to convince your parents, save up on whatever allowance you're on. Open a savings account and deposit enough money that will allow you to survive 3 hours away on your own. Show the balance to your parents. Then show them how much you'll be getting paid with your lifeguarding job. If you want something, you should get it yourself. You're parents will not be able to do anything about it if you are fully independent. If you aren't, sorry but no one can complain.

  2. It's going to be a hard sell - they are already experiencing a partually empty nest with your sister gone; without you, you hint at they have probably grown apart over the years, and haven't much left in common. It will take some tough love on your part - perhaps a confrontation. You may want to contact someone in charge of the camp to talk it over with them, indicating that this is a part of your teens that comes only once, and that their feelings shouldn't be allowed to stand in the way of your development.
