  1. Go to best buy and ask them to swipe your harddrive clean. You will have to find a operatings disk that they run through your hardrive and will clean everything!

  2. the answer is here..

  3. How permanently do you mean?

If you just want to erase the contents and start over, put your operating system install CD in and reboot the computer.  Start going through the install process.  Then when it asks if you want to format your hard drive, select "yes."  That's it.

If you want to completely and utterly erase the data so that no one can ever recover it again, (This only applies if you have sensitive data such as client data or incriminating photos that NO ONE can ever be allowed to get.) you'll want to learn about "data remanence."  There are various tools and services that can handle this for you.  Check your yellow pages.

  4. well, what operating system do you have? if you have vista, To format your hard drive, insert the installation DVD(Vista) and go through the options until you get to choose which partition to install Vista on and just click the button at the bottom that says "Format".

if you have XP, it's a longer process that you can learn about here:

  5. Go to an electronics specialist and tell him to do a wipe job, tell him to wipe it clean, then tell him which op system u want. or buy the system disc and do it ureself, the disc explains itself

  6. Depends on exactly what you mean by "permanently".  If you just want to put a fresh install of the OS on your computer, simply reformat your disk as part of a system installation.  Old data won't be easily accessible without using a data recovery application.  Note: I've used an application called Recover My Files after a format and was able to recover data files.  The level of success depends a lot on how much disk space  you have, and how much disk activity (i.e. small disk with lots of file activity equals a lower chance of recovery).

If you want to truly delete everything on the drive, look for a "disk wipe" application that will perform repeated writes to the disk (write pass 1 will write all zeros, write pass 2 writes ones to the disk, repeat these a few times, then write random patterns of ones and zeros).  After that completes, use the standard installation process to install your operating system.
