  1. if her fingers are wider at the base of the figure start with a size 8....if they are skinny start with a 7. You can always get the ring sized after the proposal.

  2. My fiance was in the same situation with me.  He bought me an adjustable placeholder ring from a museum gift shop.  (It had every bit the surprise factor as a diamond ring would have.)  Then we went to a jewelry store to pick out a ring together.  An added bonus was that we had fun picking out a ring together and I got a style I really liked.  Also, the placeholder ring is great in an of itself.

  3. oh geez...no rings at all? well if your ready to proprose, i bet shes ready too... so you couldn't like wrap a piece of string around her finger.

here is a page with some good ideas. start at number 3

  4. it doesn't really matter what size you get her.  you can get a "generic" or average size like a 6 or 7 and then get it re-sized after you get engaged.  that is what my now husband did.  good luck

  5. It doesn't really matter, you can get a ring sized up or down. the average woman's ring finger is size 6 (USA) and M (UK)

  6. Just buy the ring and then give to her. Then take her in with you to get it re-sized up or down. Size 7 is what all the stores get in. (That's average) Then they'll size her finger properly and it will fit perfect!

    Good luck!

  7. Ask her mother, and bribe her to keep mum about it. It will involve Mom in the process, which she will probably appreciate, Might also ask what style of ring fiancee wants. Bet her Mom knows.

  8. if you told us her height and weight and shoe size, i might have been able to give a pretty good guess.

  9. Ask her.  Then ask her what her birth stone is.  She will be expecting a birthstone ring, not an engagement ring.  You could open the proposal like this:  Hand her the ring box, which she thinks is her birthstone ring.  Then tell her, "Sorry, I looked at several places and I could not find your birthstone.  But I thought this ring was beautiful.  Plus (as you get down on one knee...) being that I am hoping you will agree to be my wife, I will have a whole life time to find your birthstone ring.  Will you marry me?"  That should do the trick just fine.

  10. I had this problem as well buying my girlfriend an expensive tiffany ring for Christmas. What you can do is talk to her parents, or siblings and see if they know.. if not make up an excuse to have them ask on your behalf :) she wont put them together!

  11. I've heard that a ring size is generally the same as a shoe size with maybe a 1/4 size up or down.  I know mine is and the handful of people I have standing around right now!

  12. if you know where you will get the ring you could tell the salesperson that your bringing her in to "look at watches" or something and maybe they could check her out and give you a close estimate.

  13. I think the only way to do this would be to say you want to get her a commitment ring, she wont be expecting a proposal or an engagement ring this way.

If she doesnt wear rings then nobody will know her ring size.
