How do i discipline my eleven year old daughter?

My eleven year old daughter keeps seriously acting up, like really REALLY badly. I tried taking things away or grounding her and she doesn't care, she doesn't stick to being grounded and once called me a name. I sat her down and spoke to her and grounded her. She stood up and walked away. I am considering spanking her now because she really deserves it. I did pop her a few times last year and that is the only thing she listens to. Do you think i should spank her, not to hurt her, just to get her attention because it actually works with my daughter, if so, how do i spank her? I want it to just get her attention.

A good spanking, in the living room, at least one minute in duration, administered over your lap, on her bare bottom, with a sturdy wooden hairbrush. Afterward, stand her in the corner, hands on head, with her little red bare butt on display for one hour. This always worked when my kids had exhausted all other options.

Don't spank her.  First of all, the purpose of discipline is to TEACH and help modify future behavior.  Hitting a child to get your own frustration out is not effective and frankly, unacceptable.  What do spankings teach?  Have you talked to her, set clear expectations and boundaries and most of all followed through consistently?  If you are doing everything you can on your end, maybe the problem is deeper than you think.  Does she have any special needs, underlying anger, depression, etc.  Explore natural and logical consequences.  There is a wealth of information on parenting and appropriate discipline techniques online. I am a social worker and work in people's homes helping to teach parenting skills.  Trust me, spanking is not the answer and will only make things worse.

   The person that actually said they hit their kids with a belt...really?  I feel sorry for your children.

At 11 your spankings need to hurt, or why do them?  My girls are 9 and 11.  When they get spanked I have them get undressed to their underwear, and I spank with a belt.  If they've done something really bad, or they did something they've already been spanked for, I take off their underwear.  They usually get 10-20 smacks with the belt.  It works really well and I hardly ever have to spank them.

At that age, my mom would have made me pull my pants down, and then she would have given me about 10 hard swats with a paddle on my bare-bottom.  It got my attention every time.
