  1. Just throw them in the neighbor's yard.

  2. Step 1:

Set up a plastic container or bag to store used batteries. Add each “dead” battery to it. Be sure to keep container away from water.

    Step 2:

When your container is relatively full, you have a few options as to how to dispose of them. One option is to take them to your town’s Hazardous Waste facility for recycling. Most batteries have elements that can be reclaimed by specific technologies and following regulated procedures and is both economical and environmentally wise to do.

    Step 3:

You can contact a recycling company that offers a bulk battery pick-up service. You can find a few of these online.

    Step 4:

A third option is to purchase mailing packages to hold used dry cell (household type) batteries. You can find these types of vendors online. These mailers (or plastic buckets) are pre-paid and hold up to 55 pounds of various sized batteries. Once the mailer is full, simply tape or seal it shut, fill out the shipping label, then have Fed Ex Ground pick it up.

    Step 5:

When it’s time for a new cell phone, what do you do with the old one, especially the battery? Both the battery and the cell phone itself contain a number of highly toxic materials, many of them suspected carcinogens. Why not donate the phone and battery to a charitable organization. You’ll get a tax deduction and contribute to charity while your phone gets a new useful home.

    Step 6:

When it’s time to upgrade your computer, laptop or other major electronic equipment, contact the manufacturer to see about their “take back” program. Most of the major ones, like Dell and IBM, have them. Whatever option you decide on, be responsible for how you dispose of your batteries. There are a lot of choices out there, and many are free or low cost. Make a choice that will help the environment. It’s an easy choice.

  3. Microwave

  4. In our area, we have a drop off every 3 to 6 months and it's posted in the newspaper. We collect batteries in the garage in a large coffee can until we see the date in the paper. Then take all at once to the recycling place listed.

  5. Through them in the ******* trash. I've done it before

  6. I throw them in the trash.

  7. Call your County or Parish Waste Management Team. They must have a place to dispose them to, since this is a common issue in every place since everybody use batteries of every kind now.

I know I lot of people put them in the garbage, but this is something I don't encourage you to do, since it is bad for the environment

  8. Don't store used batteries together to dispose of in a group. Even though a battery might not be able to run a toy or game anymore, it might still have a small bit of power left. If several batteries bang together, they can emit a charge which can cause them to ignite. Don't mix old and new batteries together in order to get an electronic item to work. The batteries can ignite, rupture or leak, causing damage to you as well as the electronic item.

Since many types of batteries are considered household waste, you should follow proper guidelines for disposal. Your town or city will most likely have a hazardous waste pick-up or drop-off day. Check with the city's website or newsletter to find what guidelines, if any, should be followed for properly disposing of batteries. Most hazardous waste days are noted in the local newspaper as well.

  9. If your town doesn't recycle them not much, but they may take them at their center as opposed to picking them up curbside.  Check with you town.

Try and wait it out and build up a stockpile, and soon you will own a ton of dead batteries.  Plus they will continue to deteriorate and expose their insides.
