he is a 13.3hh domnant gelding. we recently moved him into a different paddock, and he has been fine until another horse was taken out. noe there are only two other horses in there. it is a sixty acre paddock of bush. now he has been mean lately and whenever i go near him he bares his teeth at me and swings his *** towards me. i was trying to lunge him freely, and he usually is fine with that, but he just charged at me with a mmean look on his face, like that firey stallion im-gonna-eat-you look. you know the one? like he was leterrally gonna kill me. needless to say, he scared the S**t out of me,(as im smaller than him, and i have low cinfidence around horses). when mum tried it, he just walkred into her, and she couldnt do a thing about it.

he has never been like this at all. i need desperate help, as i saved up for himm all on my own and bought all of his tack and i love him to bits. i really dont want to sell him. any suggestions would be grat.

  1. Ok I think you really need to do more lunging with this guy.

You must approach this gelding with more dominance. If a horse feels that they can dominate you, then they will. You must place yourself dominant over him. Approach him in the round pen with a strong attitude, if you are scared or nervous he will feel this and take advantage of it. Never by any means, go into the round pen unaided. Wear a hat for protection and have a BIG lunge whip. If you are lunging him and he tries to charge, use the whip and crack it on the floor towards his hindquarters again and again. Keep him moving. You must keep him moving on your command to show that YOU are in control.

If you feel you are unable to assert this behaviour, I suggest an instructor or someone who knows how to do the above do this with your gelding instead.

If your horse is allowed to carry on with this dominating behaviour he will continue to do so, and this in turn will scare you, make you more nervous and lower your confidence.

    Good Luck

  2. i dont know abotu horses  dear friend sorryyyyyyyyyy

  3. i had the same problem with my horse when i turned him out in the paddock for 3 months. when they have free run of such a large area they start to loose manners. i think you need to teach him some. have you ever tried to put him on a lunge with tie downs? so have the saddle on him with a bridal on and use long reins to tie his head under. he will buck and hate it but make him keep going till he calms down. i would also say it would be best to make sure you do a lot of ground work, simple things like walking in straight lines and having control of him on the ground before you start riding, it will also help rebuild your confidence but it will be a slow process, good luck

  4. No offence to Alex C but smacking a horse on his but will make him kick up and bite etc.

First you have to get him, try going out with suger cubes and give him a few of them and while he is eating slip a halter over his head.

Once you have him, Brush him. Do this every day if you can catch him and if you have the time.

  5. I don't know about horses AT ALL. But I say you should smack them on the ***. that would get me to listen : )

    Best wishes!

  6. I think showing him love as well as discipline would help you gain respect.and spend as much time you can wid him.
