How do i edit a picture so that it's in black and white except for part of it?

i want to edit a picture so that it's in black & white, but i want my shoes to be in color. how do i do this?

I did that using Layers. Open your color image, then make a duplicate image, convert to B&W, and layer it over the first. Erase what you want in color, merge layers, and *poof* done.
