How do i edit photos so they look professional using gimp?

  1. The MOST common problems are with levels.

    Use your filter to adjust levels.  You should get a window that lets you set "all", "red", "blue" or "green"  Go to red and move the sliders on either side of the graph until they are at the first "rise" or "hill" they encounter.  Do this with the other colors as well.  You can also try the auto button but I find that doing it by hand gets better results.

    Also, check out GIMPshop.  It's GIMP with a photoshop like interface SOOO Much easier to use than the standard GIMP and still has all the features.

    After that if you need to you can set the brightness and contrast as well but usually the color levels are the difference between an amateur look and a professional one.
