  1. You are overqualified for a job?  Just put on application your degree and say u havent worked due to child.  You mean u would not be hired as a lab assistant because you are overqualified?

  2. I used to do staffing and interviewed a ton of people....One, explain that you realize that you are over qualified and you know that without starting somewhere you can't get anywhere.  If you understand what employers see you can better answer the question..They are thinking once this person finds that job they are qualified for they are going to bounce on me.  You must reassure them that is not the case.  They will ask why wouldn't you.  Tell them you realize job tenor speaks more about you than anything else on your resume can.

As far as staying home, employers see it as this person stayed at home for 3 years they don't need this job and can leave whenever they want.  This is c**p but it is the truth, despite any decrimination laws someone with a little one generally has to deal with taking off a lot when their child is sick.  Do you have a back up plan that you can reassure your employer that you will not always have to leave anytime you child is sick.  As you can see it is always easier to get a job when you already have one. Best of luck.

  3. To get going consider doing a Post Graduate Certificate of Secondary Education(Or some equivalent of the PGCSE if you are in other than the United Kingdom)This qualifies you to teach in a school.Other possibilities would include home tuition or as a school lab tech.I hope you get some start soon;it can be depressing to waste a qualification.

  4. try finding another position higher than lab assistant. for sure there are clinical chemists/ bionanalytical chemists in hospitals that are more fit for your bs degree.

  5. you're not overqualified to do a lab assistant job if you have no previous work experience - apply and give other examples of skills and modules

(had my daughter at uni - still getting 'work expereince' in a professional but low paying job at research - it takes so much time to climb the ladder, but you have to start somewhere

  6. When you say you,re over qualification ?   Any job would hire you fast !

  7. just take the job. it will give you experience.  from there you can then branch to other positions.

  8. Lab jobs in hospitals are seldom for chemists - they are for biochemists, microbiologists and, increasingly, biomedical scientists. So unless your degree contained a significant biological component you are hardly overqualified for hospital work.

Did your degree contain sufficient practical work for you to be convincing about your skills at interview for laboratory work? And is it an Honours degree that you have ? Most chemistry employers require that now. The main thing against you is the time out of employment (any skills you possessed on qualification will now be rusty)  and the fact that you really seem to believe you're overqualified!

  9. Dear Green Apple Sweetie,

You have a BS in Chem., but can't find a job.  Have you applied for a position in plants in your area?  You might would work up to desired pay level sooner than you think.  You truly wouldn't be happy, as a Lab. Asst.,  with a degree in chemistry.  You would become bored so quickly for the lack of skills it requires.

Having said that to say this.  "It's important to prove yourself in a position no matter how lowly it is, once you take it".  The only way to look good leaving that job is to be asked to move in to another position within the hospital or keep applying for jobs, as they arise within the hospital. If you're a humble person and can be kidded by your peers for having a BS degree working as a Lab Asst.  Go for it. If you're hungry enough. You can do it!

Please be so careful when choosing a career with your degree.  I know you need a job with your child, if there's any way please keep pounding the pavements for a job.  Someone will hire you based on your education, as this is generally known as experience.  If you have your grade point average with you as reference, this will open the door for you.

Be on time, faithful, loyal and all the other you learned to be to your employer.................you'll find yourself raising in the ranks with a salary along beside you quickly.

Blessings to you and your child<><:)

  10. I think you're lack of work experience would even out the fact that you are technically over-qualified.  Just apply.
