They all forgot to tell you that you need to dial 011 first. So it's...

011 (for international)

64 (for New Zealand)

the area code (without the first zero)

then the phone number

just one thing: you may need to drop the '0' in the area code before dialling.

If the number you have starts with for instance 04 801 XXXX then you would drop the 0 before the 4.

Dial the country code and phone number.  It works exactly like placing a phone call from the US to NZ.
