How do i fax with a fax machine?

Question

I need to fax something with a ax machine really bad so im planning to buy a fax machine. I tried to fax it at office max but they don't receive fax they only send. So i need to buy my own fax machine so i can send and receive fax. But do the fax machine need an additional phone line or do i have a monthly fee for the fax machine to work?
