i bought my baby corn snake at a petco five days ago the man there told me to feed him once a week and he told me to feed him krill the ones in the flat packs for fish. he said thaw them out and take the head off and try to shove them down his throat with tweezers. this didnt seem right to me because my snake doesnt seem to interested in the krill. i dont know how old the snake is or if it has ever shed..

  1. you should probably feed it crickets

just leave about one in there and see if it eats

when it gets bigger u can feed it mice

  2. Corn snakes eat rodents, birds, and other reptiles.

They do NOT eat frozen krill (or crickets); how ridiculous!

In captivity, corn snakes are almost exclusively fed mice. Baby corn snakes eat baby mice, also known as "pinkies".

Purchase some frozen pinkies, and thaw one, under a light bulb, until it is slightly warmer than room temperature. WITHOUT moving or disturbing the snake, use a long handled tweezers or similar instrument to dangle the mouse in front of the snake. This should tease it into striking.

Here are a couple of reasonably decent care sheets-

  3. That Petco advice was terrible! Never trust them for care advice. Krill is for sea creatures!  In fact, id love to know where exactly (what petco?) you got that snake- id love to call the manager about that. Thats awful, awful advice.

If your snake isnt eating willingly then something is wrong- they are ill, not hungry, bad care or wrong food.  Only a vet should force feed.

Feed a snake food that is as big around as its body- babies usually get pinkie mice. Defrost well by leaving on counter for an hour or so. Look up sake care at anapsid.org.

  4. By now you know to feed your snake pinkies...NOT fish or crickets.  When you feed your snake feed him in a separate feeding tub.  Get a plastic box, large enough for your snake to fit in it comfortably.  Get the short boxes…the box should be about the height to go under a bed.  Drill several small holes along the sides at the top for airflow.  Put the snake in and then put his food in.  After your snake has eaten give him about 20 minutes or so to get the food down and then put him back up in his house.  Give him 24 hours to digest the food a bit before you handle him.

Hopefully the pet shop told you that once you get your snake home and in his tank not to handle the snake for at least 7 days.  After the 7 days take him out to feed him, after he eats put him back up in his house for at least 24 hours then you can start handling him a little bit (15 minutes per day or so).  You can gradually handle the snake more as he gets used to you.

  5. iv never heard of corn snakes being fed krill and i dont know why he is advising you to force feed the corn snake, you should buy some frozen pinkies (baby mice) you need to thaw this out and then with tweezers hold it infont of your corn snake, your corn should then strike at and constrict the pinkie and then eat the pinkie

  6. I got a baby corn as a gift from petco

i just feed it pinkie mice

  7. wow who ever gave you that advice is retarded, and like the other's have already stated, feed him pinkie mice not krill and insects.

  8. I have never herd of this, baby corns eat pinkies not fish i think the manager needs re training... no wonder pet shops have such a bad reputation for caring for their snakes! You should feed it f/t that's frozen/thawed i always leave it to defrost on the window sill until it's warm...you can tell if its warm enough by placing the pinkie between your fingers and if it feels cold then the organs haven't warmed up and your snake wont be interested.(some people defrost it and warm it up in warm water) I wouldn't recommend live food as when its bigger mice and rats can do alot of damage to the snake so best off feeding it f/t from the start!!!  hope this has helped! oh and you can feed young ones every 5-7 days.! oh and please please dont force feed it, this will only stress the corn out!!!!
