  1. The problem is--you can't. You need your toe-pick so you can do things like flip jumps, pivots, waltz jumps, basically every jump! You even need your toe-pick if you are just going out skating with friends because it balances you. Think of your blade as your foot and your toe-pick as your toes, without your toes you wouldn't be able to walk!

I think your  best bet is to get a new pair of blades, or stay off the ice!

    Good Luck!

  2. Well, you need your toe pick to jump and stuff so I would say get some new boots. I hope everything gets worked out!

  3. you cant, you can play hockey without a toe pick, but figure skating, you need a toe pick, it helps with foot work, and jumps, and spins...and just everything. so not sure why you want to skate without one...but you cant so it would be good to make sure you have one.

  4. Do you mean that you're scraping with the toe pick a lot when you skate?  Or even tripping over the toe picks?

You need to BEND YOUR KNEES more so your body is centered over the skates.  Also make sure you're not leaning too far forward (or hunching your shoulders) . . . and keep your toes relaxed (no scrunched up toes) as that can get you on your toe picks as well.

When you push with your skates when going forward make sure you are pushing with the full length of the blade at an angle - not flicking your heel up and back.  When you're skating backwards, you also want to use the full length of the blade . . . it may help to think of sitting back on them a bit.

Toe picks are part of the equipment - and it's essential for figure skating as everyone has already mentioned.  Not just for jumps - but for spins and turns as well.  There's no going around that - except to say that beginner blades have less grip and less monstrous toe picks than the advanced blades . . . so hopefully you have the right blade for your skating level.

Falling is inevitable.  Even top skaters can trip or have silly mistakes with those toe picks . . . it's something we just all deal with.  And the scraping thing is pretty common, but that's something we all strive to NOT do.  If anything, bend those knees to help skate with your whole foot - not on your toes!!

Hope that's what you meant - and hope that helps!
