I know how to ride a bike but I'm not very good at it. So I want to start riding a bike to school and maybe some easy trail riding to start training. So I want to begin with a cheap bike to make sure I'll stick with it (and not buy a really expensive bike and never use it). but I want to buy a good cheap bike. What do I look for in a bike? Where do I look? I saw some cheap but apparently good ones in Wal Mart, but how can I make sure they're ok for what I need right now?

  1. Toys R Us, has all different size, and sorts of diverse and variety of bikes, try that..................

  2. Yes, just pick one up at Wal-Mart. Theirs are nice and cheap.

  3. Dont go to Wall-mart or target theyll fall apart on u if u try to ride it go and get a cheap norco u can get a norco rivet 4 $229 if u get a c**p bike people will tease u and everyone will slash ur tires pull off the seat and try 2 bend the rims

  4. This may sound a bit radical, but I'd try Salvation Army or Good Will stores. Many bikes are donated to either and some aren't bad. I don't know how mechanically inclined you are, but if you find one that looks rather new, and in your size, and try cranking the pedals (get a friend to help) by holding the back wheel off of the ground and running through the the gears, and everything is in working order, I'd buy it. It should be really cheap, and if you find that biking is for you, you can always upgrade to a really good bike later. Buying one at Walmart or some other cheap place, will most likely get you a tank which you will probably want to replace once you decide that you're really into biking, and you'll pay a lot more for a new one. Also, depending upon your financial situation, you can donate it back to either place and help someone else.

  5. Target has better ones, and there is the benefit of not supporting oppression by buying it at Wal-Mart, because they buy from countries that support child labor.

  6. Do NOT buy walmart brand mountain bikes. They build the bikes and slap diamondbacks name on them. All name brand no quality. you need to research for what time of riding your looking to do. Extreme downhill and jumps = expensive, durable, full suspension bike. Trail riding = moderately priced hard tail (which can be purchased for like 500$ these days). but first figure out what you wanna spend and start looking at bikes. read reviews and compare prices.

  7. hahaha when i first started reading this question i was already thinking of my answer "wal mart" u read my mind

  8. In cities Craigslist is an excellent source for good, barely used, bikes.  Like your post implied, many people buy bicycles and never ride them.

I'm not too keen on the big box store bicycles, but then I'm a bike snob.

The important thing is that you ride.  The motor is, far and away, the most important component on a bicycle.  And that's going to be you!

  9. Buy one from Target. They're all only 100 dollars

  10. You can buy a nice one for cheap at a pawn shop. I got a $600 Trek for $170.
