How do i find a good flatscreen tv?

i'm looking for a lcd tv and i don't know about all the numbers that describe the tv and what they mean. so what does the 12,000:1 ratio mean and whats better? i'm looking for something 42 inches or better and i'm trying to keep it under 1,000$.

  1. 12,000:1 is just the contrast ratio. It is important and high numbers are best, but don't worry about it as there is no agreed upon method of measuring, so the numbers do not mean a lot.

    You find a good set by going to look at them in a number of different stores/settings. Eventually you will start to notice differences and decide what you like or don't.

    42 inch on a good 1080p set and keeping it under $1000 is not going to be easy to do today.

    It is all a trade off of what you can afford, what you like, etc. You can get a larger 720p set for the money... or you can go with a smaller screen size 1080p, etc.

    Don't buy an off brand... Sony, Samsung, LG, Panasonic, Vizio are all good. Other brands, I do not know...
