I am having intermittent problems with my water pressure for my sprinklers. I think I have checked most everything else so I am down to water pressure. The sprinklers work fine for about two minutes and then the pressure drops and I get little water flow.

  1. sorry my friend ,but the reality is ,from your explanation is ,that you have an above ground pump ,which means that you have what is known as a shallow well field .they work fine as long as they are installed properly [ depth]  a well point is a p.v.c. pipe that has slits in it to filter out dibree from water ,like a filter ,however if they are not deep enough the water table will drop Bellow one of the slits and suck in air ,thus the cracked straw effect when drinking results .it is going to cost you .about $1000.00 to have them replaced to the right depth ,however they will pay for themselves in about one year in the water bill savings in the sprinkler system usage alone. to prove to you that i am right ,hook  a hose to your hose bib on your house ,hook the other end [requires two female ends ] to the hose bib of your pump ,then you will see that your pump works fine ,as you are supplicating the water supply. ALSO DO NOT WAIST MONEY ON UPSIZING YOUR AIR TANK ,IF YOU HAVE ONE,AS ALL IT DOES IS REGULATE THE TURN ON AND SHUT OFF OF YOUR PUMP ,AND DOES NOT EFECT THE PRESSURE AT ALL.

  2. I have a well here too and I love not having a water bill, but there is the risk of having breakdowns. Do you have a holding tank? Recently the air bladder in mine went bad and the tank needed replaced. It's purpose is to "push" against the water and give the house water pressure. And they say the bigger the tank you can get away with the better. It keeps the pump itself from running all the time you need to draw water which extends the pump life. Perhaps your pump is at fault too. It may not be keeping it's prime or shutting down for other reasons. Or the ground might be running dry. Not every well taps into a reliable stream underground and they can run out of water. Mine does, and I have a 350 gallon tank to bring water in. I just dump the water down the well itself and re-prime the system. It's good for a week that way including showers and some clothes washing.
