The Social Security Adminstration will forward a letter to the address they have for the SSN holder. The address may be bad and the person (He? She?) may decline to answer it.

EVERYTHING but everything.. depends on your home state, and what the specific law is, regarding possible custodial interference, when he left, and what court orders you might have had/ not had.  The discrepancy between state laws is a huge problem, and many police WRONGLY think it is a "civil" dispute, when it may not be.

A relatives' husband ran with the kids, at a time when no one had heard of the term "parental abduction".  He hid for 10 yrs, and in the meantime, the home state REVISED their laws concerning the issue. She had gotten a valid court order, even though he was not findable. She finally sat down with the district attorney, who ran the search and found him. Again, it depends on your state and the exact circumstances.

Under normal situations, you cannot legally use his ssn for what would be invasion of privacy, and it will not be online for free. If the children are minors, and illegally being hidden, that is an exception to the normal.

You need to see a family lawyer.  That is the only legal way for you to get anything done.  Unless the child custody part of the court order states otherwise, you have a right to see your children.  The unfortunate thing is in order to get anything done the right way, you have to involve lawyers and pay money.
