Try Googling "White Pages for (town)", and that should get you some free telephone book websites with the addresses listed. In Canada, it's "Canada 411".

The electoral register will have the information for you, anything after they year 2000 is kept at the main library in the town/city just turn up at the library and ask to do a search of the address that you wish to know about. Anything prior to 2000 is kept at the Archives library.
