  1. well looking up where the names come from would be a good start.

you might be related to lot more people than you think.

    i know i am.

i've been researching my family for three years and i've learned alot so far.

Ancestry.com is also a good place to start.

  2. To look into your heritage, you need to find out as much as possible about your parents, their parents, and THEIR parents. Once you've asked people what they know, build it up onto a tree, recording everything you know. The most useful websites for research in the UK are:

    Genes Reunited

familysearch.org - Mormons research, but don't go by it without double checking your findings against actual records!

www.freebmd.org.uk - free searches, but incomplete

Your family names are going to shed some light on where your families are originally from, but it won't tell you anything about your family personally. Also be prepared to look for differen't variants in spelling, because before everyone was able to read and write, people didn't know how their names were spelt, so the census officers guessed a lot.

Good luck, you get a real buzz from it when you find a new lead, and it's definitely worth investing the time.

  3. I recently tried a website someone referred me to.  The Mormon geneology website is very helpful.  You don't have to be mormon and your relatives don't have to be mormon to be in their records.  I had only a few names to work with and found out who their relatives were within minutes. Give it a try it might help.
