My Grandfather came to America In 1912. But he told me that an other part of them came in the early 1700's. Is there a website I can go to that can go to that will help me see if I have any other relatives in Ireland. I have no clue where he came from exept it was from Ireland but I should be able to find that out.

  1. ask family or use internet

  2. Have you got a name? Then google it and try the Irish telephone directory which you can access via www.goldenpages.ie.

If you don't know where your grandfather came from in Ireland, it won't be easy. People do move around a lot, and you would have to try and do a search for his name on parish registers, which would be very time-consuming if you don't have a place to start.

  3. If you have no family member (that you know) that is connected to them I would hire someone - the internet is a great resource, but the 1700s is so far back that I think you will need some help. You can start researching the name if you have that and dates online. Just do a search on genealogy and sites should pop up. Good luck to you!

    Ancestry.com may be useful too

  4. unfortunatly the only census that really exists is the 1901, allothers were lost or paritally destroyed in a fire. It is extremly difficult to trace, also records cannot be trusted that much, think about it prior to 1922 ireland was an occupied country captured by the british, if history and the present teachs us one thing it is that you dont tell the whole truth to your enemy in times of captivity.

  5. The web won't help much. You first need to interview all the living members of your family with knowledge of previous generations. You need American birth and death certificates for the first generation to arrive in America. Then you'll need to find records in Ireland. That's difficult, even if you're in Ireland. Unless you plan on travelling there, you'd be better off hiring an Irish genealogist. The National Library of Ireland (www.nli.ie) keeps a list of approved genealogists.
