I was adopted the day i was born. My birth mother knew my adopted mom. My mom has passed away and now i have a child. I don't know my medical history but i would like to know for my son. I know where i was born. I don't think an adoption agency had anything to do with it but im not sure. How do i go about finding out what to do?

  1. are you sure 1st? im adopted and wish i never went digging!!! anyway try your local registry office 1st then maybe your doctor if not wot about the Internet but be prepared for wot you might found out it was a bg shock for me, anyways good luck and i hope you find wot your looking for

  2. Go to your local births, deaths and marriages to find out. That's how I did and found out my mother was still alive but then mysteriously the information I found went missing.

  3. Register your details here -

    http://www.isrr.net/registration.shtml

    and

    http://registry.adoption.com/

Check here - on the state you were born in - to see if you can get your original birth certificate (sadly highly unlikely, as most US states have sealed records - but you may be able to get some non-identifiable ID) -

Have you checked through your mum's papers??

Have you asked you a-dad - if he's still alive??

Have you checked with any other family members??

I wish you all the very best.

I do hope you can find her - you have every right to know who you are.

  4. My daughter Rachael went to the court house dept. of birth death and marriage licenses. Take what ever you have and know for sure. Do you know where your bio mom went to school? It has been done by a few of us. Get into classmates.com find the high school you know for sure and post a message on the message board. I found Rachaels father in 3 days, but I got lucky, his brother has passed away and there was a post acknowledging it. It listed all his surviving family and I started calling people. I got a nephew and he passed the info along. Her father called me 3 days later. Have you signed any of the registries? I don't have those off hand but I'm sure some one will post them for you.

    Good Luck.

Not all reunions are unhappy, but you do need to be ready for what you find. Go into it with the attitude of getting medical info and anything else is a bonus.
