How do i find out if my grandmother listed me in her will?

My granny died in March of '08 and I was never notified by my aunt, her daughter

  1. In the US, wills go through the probate courts, I think.  You should be able to go to the court and see the will, if it has been probated already.

If an estate was opened, the will should have been recorded in the county she lived in.  Even if there was no money in the estate, there should have been what is called a spread of will, where the will is recorded at the County Recorder's Office.  The will names who is to be the executor of the estate, as well as who the beneficiaries are.  If you are listed as a beneficiary, you need to contact the person who is listed as the executor.  That person has what is called a fiduciary responsibility to follow the instructions of the will, as much as possible.  Any executor who breaches that duty is looked on VERY poorly by the court that administers the estate, and can be sued for misappropriating the estate funds.  I know of attorneys who were executors or trustees who were disbarred for breaching their fiduciary duties.
