How do i find out if someone is still alive?

I am trying to find out if a relative of mine is still alive. I have never met her so do not have too much to go on. I know her birth year, her full name, parents names and sisters names and rough idea of area. All i know is that she was alive when she was 91 but that was 12 years ago.Its a long shot but she still could be as unable to find her death at the library.

please edit your question, and include her name and year of birth.  I'd be willing to bet she is not living now.  We also need to have the country (state?)... can't find her in social security death index, if she lived in Ireland.  If you provide name of husband, we can look him up also.
