ok so i have room mates and i would love to just be able to get on my computer and find out without asking one in the house if the room mates are online using the router. the reason is because when 2 or 3 people get online simultaneously the internet connection gets really slow. so all this could be avoided if i know how many people are actually active on the router. what software can i use to find this information?

  1. there shuld be something called "local network summary" or local network status.  or download free software

  2. You can check on the router via the web GUI.  You can also set up security measures such as WEP keys and mac-filtering so no one else can get on it.

  3. login to router 192.168.x.x.

    Dhcp or local sites.

Second way to find out who is on the network

My Network Places-where you can find out the computer name on the network and to check the network connectivity

Start-Run(CMD or Command)- type ping space computer name or IP Address. This will show you who is on the network.

Packet Sniffer is program who is online and network.

If you understand networking and computer.

  4. Log into your router, its an ip address, and it starts with 192.168.x.x where x depends on the specific router.  You can google your router and find out exactly.  Once you log in, there should be something that says active connections, or current connections on the menu.

  5. Login to the router (see your documentation).

Go to the LAN area and check status.  There should be something that lets you look at the dhcp client list.

  6. hi dude...you told that you have router....router should connect to switch, then only other people can connect by using it,otherwise they can't.suppose they connect by using the switch, then you have to find that switch port for that particular computer and unplug it....by doing this you can increase the performance.
