  1. If you're using a Linksys WAP or Router then to check or set the network key you need to connect to the management website.

You'll need to connect a PC via an Ethernet cable (wired), then open a browser and go to http://192.168.1.1

This is MOST LIKELY the address, but you'll need to refer to your documentation if it is not.

From there you'll be prompted to login to the router. You will need to enter the username and password for the router. If you have never set on, the default on MOST Linksys routers is an User: admin Pass: admin

At that point you can go to Wireless Security and check and/or set the key.

If you do not have your documentation it can be downloaded for free from Linksys' website.

Ultimately if you don't know the password to access the router's GUI either, then you will need to follow the procedure for resetting the device back to factory settings which will erase the password and ALL SETTINGS. But you'll have access to the device to set the key.

  2. The key was set by whoever set up the router.  It's either a key (WEP) or a passphrase (WPA).

It would have been nice if that person wrote it down on the documentation.

If all else fails, you can reset the router back to the factory settings by holding a paperclip in the reset hole on the back for 10 secs and reconfiguring the router.

Are you sure you need a key?  Does your network show as secured when you look at the available network list?  If not, you don't need a key.

  3. It should say on your router the box with linxys on it, its usually about a ten digit/letter code.

  4. its either written on the underneath of your wireless box thats connected to the main pc, or on one of the peices of paper that came with it.

  5. Normally it's on a sticker underneath the router. If not, check the packaging and manual you got when you bought it.

  6. if it's not the default key that the router came with you'll need to ask the person who set it up what it is.
