How do i find the COST of a new car?

im looking into an 08 mazda rx8 gt. the sticker is a little over $31k and the guy gave me a number a little over $30k with a $3500 rebate. so the final price was a little over $26k.

i heard before that i should find the cost of the vehicle and offer him 5% more than the cost, then add all the fees on top of that.

sound right? how do i find the cost?

There are a bunch of places to check car prices on the Internet. NADA guides is one - but since they are owned by the car dealers association I never recommend them. KBB is another. Driverside.com is a new site and they have some cool data showing price based on mileage.
