  1. I was shocked too when I found out the records are sealed, not only from the public, but from the very person they belong to!

I'm so sorry you've found out this way that the Law says you have no right to your own identity.

People do search and find though, despite the antiquated laws that were originally intended to protect us from the stigma of illegitimacy.  These old laws are long overdue for a change.

Register with as many reunion registries as you can and you may find a match with family members who are also looking for you.  People do find each other - despite the stupid sealed records laws

  2. Probably not, those records are sealed.  It may require a court order to open them.

  3. Is the birth certificate you have an ammended certificate (with your adoptive parent's names on it) or is it an original (with your birth parent's names on it)?

While most adoptees don't have the original, it's not unheard of.......

If you have names, they can be found without involving the state.

  4. no adoption records are accessible online.  GA adoption laws are explained at this site.

    http://laws.adoption.com/statutes/georgi...

Basically you need to be 21 to request that an intermediary open your records and attempt to locate for you.  If your birth parents have find a consent to contact then the information will be given to you directly.  This is highly unlikely because not too many birth parents realize(d) that this is even an option for them.

you should also register with the following sites

    isrr.net

    registry.adoption.com

    http://www.gsadoptionregistry.com/

and any GA specific sites that you can find online.

be sure to register you information in this manner to help anyone searching for you locate faster

    F  01/01/1911 GA ISO BF

what this means is female birthdate, state, ISO (in search of) BF (birth family) or use BM for birth mother etc.

    good luck!
