  1. y = -1/3 X + b

    -1 = -4/3 + b

    b = 1/3 (y intercept)

  2. y = mx + b, where b is the y-intercept

    -1 = -1/3 ( 4) + b

    -1 = -4/3 + b..........add 4/3 to both sides

    1/3 = b

    The y-intercept is (0, 1/3)

    Good luck to you !

  3. In order to find the equation of a line when you are given the slope and a point on the line, you can use the point-slope formula:

    (y - y1) = m(x - x1)

    where m is the slope, and (x1,y1) is the given point.

    For your data:

    y + 1 = (-1/3)(x - 4)

    Then put the equation in slope-intercept form to find the intercept.

    y + 1 = (-1/3)x + 4/3

    y = (-1/3)x + 1/3

    The y-intercept is: (0,1/3)
