  1. Here is a website about studs for horseshoes.  Sounds like your ferrier has to be involved.

  2. Just go to a horse stables and they will tell you how to fit them on or when you get to the horse show ask someone x Goddd Luck x

  3. Most s***w in.

  4. The shoe has to have a hole drilled in it and then the studs are screwed in.  They are self tapping, meaning they cut their own threads, but they may take a little encouragement from a few hammer taps to get started.  If your horse is already shod with shoes that are not drilled for them then get your farrier to drill the holes and show you how to put them in.  He may even s***w them in to cut the threads for you and then remove them so all you have to do is s***w them in.  Sometimes shoes come pre-drilled or a farrier can drill the holes before putting the shoe on.  Then you can attach them when you need them.

  5. The "studs" you're talking about are called "calks" and are placed on the shoe by the farrier and are used for traction.  You'll have to have a farrier come out and attach them.

A good illustration of this can be found in "The Horseman's Bible" by Jack Coggins.

  6. Your farrier will have to help with this one.  There are different types of studs, but I'm going to guess that what you will go with is this:  the farrier will put on shoes with holes in spots where you can s***w in studs when necessary, and replace them with a "keeper" s***w when the holes aren't in use so they don't pack with dirt.  This way, when you have a competition and studs are necessary, you can put them in yourself.

  7. Call your horse shoer. You can't do it on your own unless you are trained.

  8. Okay, well first you need stud holes in their shoes, which can only be done by the farrier, but if you already have stud holes, you will need a stud kit.

First, you want to choose the type of stud you want, depending on the ground. Consult an expert, or a farrier on which ones you should use. In the stud kit, there will be a tool for tighteningg the studs in the shoes. Put the studs in the holes in the back feet, and tighten them with it, until they are completely in place, and don't move around at all.

To take the studs out, you will need some little cotton wool plugs, and some baby oil. You will also need the tightening implement, and a shar, spiky thing, all are included in the kit. Untighten the studs, and take them out using the tightening thing, and coat the plugs with baby oil, before inserting them into the plug holes, and poking them in with the sharp, spiky thing. Make sure they are firmly in place.
