  1. Something like this actually happened to me a year ago. I needed to return a movie that was scratched. All you need to do is go out and buy, or if you have some $1 clear nail polish and coat the back with the polish. It will not play the dvd correctly but it will seem completely normal if the retailer checks, just as i got away with it.

  2. Make a  trip to Radio Shack and check out a device called the SkipDr. Its not expensive, especially for the hand operated model, and will polish out all but the worst scratches. It'll polish more than one disc,  so hang on to it for next time your favorite CD gets dropped, or stepped on in the car. Some music stores also have wet bath, professional polish machines, and for a few bucks will polish your disc for you. I live in the small rural town of Warroad, MN ,and the Video Box here has such a machine. The Budget Discs Store in Grand Forks, ND has a really good one, or at least did the last time I was there, and for 3 dollars they polished scratched discs for people. Got to be a music store around any good sized town or city that offers disc polishing, check the yellow pages or call shops until you find one that offers the service. They'd almost have to have a polishing unit if they deal in used CD's.

Hope this helps, I've rescued CD's, DVD's, even blank CD-Rs with the Skip Dr.

  5. oooh... sounds pretty scratched up... i have heard of both peanut butter and toothpaste. i dont kno how they do the peanut butter but use a wet rag with a lil tooth paste and swipe it from the center to the outside... not circular! then just use a rag of wetness... ( i didnt wanna say wet rag again) and get rid of the access in the same manner. if its as bad as it sounds i dunno if anything will work but its worth a try
