portforwarding.com was not helpful. i've set the TCP UDP each at 50000 and did the same for the port forwarding settings on the router but the smiley is still yellow and as disgruntled as i am. Should i set them to different values? should i disable universalplugnplay on azureus? should i hang myself? does it matter that i'm not hardwired into the router (using wireless here)??

  1. Need to know how your router works. Port forwarding opens ports to a specific local IP address. So even if ports are open if your computer is not at that IP it will still see the ports closed. Some routers allow you to open ports over the entire local network, this is one option. Otherwise you will have to give the computer a static IP address and then forward the ports to that IP.

Another problem can be the value. 50000 is probably a bad idea. Try something like 3456. ISPs also filter ports and ranges of ports.

Next, just use shareaza. (do not download from shareaza.com, there is no version 4, it's a scam, 2.3.1.0 is current, the site was hijacked) You will still have to open ports. But at least it's not the huge power hog that Azureus is. Offers torrents, edonkey, gnutella 1 and 2 in one application.

You will also need to be sure that no firewalls are blocking traffic on the port or the application.

  2. because thats not how you do it !

in the router add the program under services  in the define custom service  once you do that assign it a port and forward that port to a set ip that would match the ip you put in the nic card of your pc . it's honestly a very straight forward and easy process

  3. Do you have any software firewalls?  SP2, Norton, McAfee, etc.?
