How do i fix my computer?

so this laptop is an HP with windows vista and the other day my sister was using it, she said it froze on her so she turned it off and turned it back on but it wouldn't turn back on. so now i try to turn it on and it does, but it doesn't let me log on to it. there are three users on my laptop so u have to like type in your password and stuff, but instead of going there the screen goes black and all i can see is the little clicker thing, so yeah anyone know if i might be able to fix that??

use the repair function on the installation cd

try starting you pc in safe mode.if it does not work. you will have to run setup from installer cd again
