  1. surgery

  2. How do you know your meniscus is torn but you don't know you get surgery to fix it?

  3. The meniscus is very special cartilage, with the shape of a piece of pie. Along the thick edge, there is a blood supply, but at the thin edge, poor blood supply means that it seldom will heal on it's own. The orthopedic surgeon  can use special shavers to trim away the damage, on the tapered edge and sometimes can do a special meniscal repair, or stitching of the thick edge, if needed. You can't do anything to make it heal better, just try to limit the damage to the articular cartilage, that is the tissue that lines the ends of the bones, or joint. Running, twisting, jumping or anything that makes it click, lock, give way or swell up after doing any of the above. Good luck!
