  1. put in another tank

    or use the water

  2. It sounds like you need a larger tank, or an additional tank to handle the overflow. This sounds like a problem that all people who use irrigation would like to have. The value of the extra water should quickly cover the cost on additional storage space.

  3. A few years ago we started to notice that we were having 200 year storms every 10 years, and a lot of storms much bigger than our historic norms.

We were also going longer times between good rains. Storage facilities we had assumed would always be adequate are no longer to get through our worst dry periods.

We have to reassess how deep a drought we may need water for, and build reserves big enough to get through most of them, or plan on even worse, and build to get through all of them.

  4. Water tank, are you talking about the same thing us Midwesterners call a pond of lake?  If that's the case, you need to raise the top of the dam, emergency spillway and primary spillway if it has one.  If you go that route, contact your county soil& water conservation district/NRCS office for suggestions.

  5. have an overflow pipe fitted, high up on the side of the tank, then route this pipe down into the top of another tank.

The top of the other tank needs to be lower than the bottom of the overflowing tank (but can be far away)
