How do i gain a hampsters trust

i just got a hampster and he is so cute but i cant hold him he wont eat out of my hand not even his favorite treat! what do i do

  1. Pick him up and hold him every day, give him a chance to get used to you. Pretty soon he will learn to trust you.


  2. Move slowly around him.

    Give him time - it will take a few days.

    Hold hand still in cage - let him come to you and check you out. Don't move even if he gets onto your hand.

    Gently pet him - but don't try to pick up for a few days.

    Remember that hamsters are most active at night - so don't disturb during the day while he is getting used to you.

  3. Be patient, he has his own view of the world and may think you are trying to eat him. It takes patience and trust. Let him come to you in his own good time and do nothing to scare him, he will remember.

  4. It takes time with those hamsters.  Do what the first guy said, rmm.  He seems to understand them.  We had one that never warmed up to us.  I'll get a cat the next time.
