My ex-fiancee and i have split but she is 5 mo pregnant with our child. she has 7 kids from 3 previous relationships. This will be her 8th, I moved back to illinois to make more money for this child. I was helping her pay for her new place but since her husband moved in and is unemployed i fiqure why should i help. Emotions aside, she will not at times allow me to be a part of this pregnancy but agrees to paternity, She has limitied income resources and I just want this child to have what he/she needs. I was wondering what my chances are of getting equal custody without hiring an attorney

  1. O my gawd can you make bad decisions.  Why wasn't 7 kids from 3 fathers a 2000' x 1500' red flag for you?

The best advice at this point is I hope you've learned from this huge mistake.  This woman is a loser and generally losers breed loser kids.  You should fight tooth and nail for this child.  She has more than she can handle.

  2. Getting equal custody without hiring an attorney?

You stand a snowballs chance in h**l without an attorney to represent you in court.

  3. You have every right the same as her to have custody.

I know from experience it is very hard in the state of WI to take away a father's rights, especially with visiting, or custodial. I now live in PA and my son's father lives in WI (we all used to live there) he has just as much rights to our son as I do...however he choose to not exersise them. Thus he has considered to have abandoned his son legally.

Be sure you do take care of sending money to help financially with the child...if you lapse for more than 90 days (I believe) and are not part of the child's life...you have abandoned your child legally in WI. It is very important that once your baby is born you make calls and send letters or cards (make sure you send them certified mail) then you will have proof that you have always tried to be suppotive emotionally.

Hope this helps you. If you do not follow what I have said or you have injured the baby in any way then that is how you would loose your rights. I know from my son's father being very abusive to me many many times...physicaly and emotionally...that was not enough proof to take his rights away. The court said he had to either abandon his child or have had to injur him.
