I currently work for Pandrol, but I am also looking for some extra work working on the railways. I am wondering how you train for the PTS card required for showing you are competent for working on the track?

Do i need to be sponsored via a Link Up or can I apply for training and pay for it all myself?

If I do have to be sponsored via a Link Up company how do I go about getting this sponsorship?

  1. PTS is only one of the qualifications needed to work lineside on the railway and will only allow general track workings, best thing to do is ask Pandrol if they offer the course, otherwise you will have to apply for a job with one of the other many firms who attempt to do maintenance work on the permanent way.  Dont forget you have to take a dual test for both AC and DC lines if applicable to your area.

  2. A good way of getting your PTS is going to one of the agencies close to you and seeing if they will put you through it they will pay for the training but you will be working for them if you were doing it on your own try one of the companies on the link below but I think the PTS course for track workers is now a ten day course so you would be better going through an agency.

  3. Why not ask the railway company you want to work for?????????
